Where to start?

Gosh it's been a long time since I posted an update and a lot has happened!

The Party

The boys birthday party was a great success. It rained all day Saturday and was supposed to have stopped by the time we woke up. Well as I was driving to Costco to pick up the cake at 10:00 a.m. it was still rain. I began to wonder exactly what we would do with the 40 or so kids and 70 adults that were expected to arrive at our house in just four short hours. Thank goodness we were lucky as usual and the sun came out and dried up all the rain and we got to have the party outside. Zack fell asleep on the way back from Costco and didn't wake up until 1:00 p.m., we couldn't have planned it better if we tried. Sam was a phenomenal host, he would run and greet all of his friends giving hugs or high fives some special friends even got kisses! We had plenty of food and the sangria was a hit. Izzy the entertainer arrived at 1:45 and he made balloon animals for all the kids, then he did a magic show, Sam got to be the star in a few of the tricks, he finished his gig with face painting. Then we did the pinatas which ended up need to be ripped open by adults, three year olds can't whack them open I guess. Shortly after he left the ice cream man arrived and everyone was happy. I was surprised by the number of adults that actually got ice cream. We then did the cake, see photo here. After this people started leaving, first Sam's classmates. There is some unspoken rules about kids birthday parties, we are starting to learn. So far we know, once cake is served you should eat it quick and get out of there. The other is only one parent should go to the party. After a short while we were left with close friends and family. The people at the end were so nice and helped clean up and get the food put away which was terrific. Between Sam and Zack they got SO many gifts. As the people were arriving Sam wanted to open each gift, after he understood that he was not going to get to open them till after he stopped asking. Then at the end when we told him he could open which ever ones he wanted he didn't really want to open all that many. So, gift opening took 3 days. One of the favorite gifts he got was a doctor kit, he's been helping everyone feel better since. He also got Edward and the Gold Mining cars, thanks Jim and John they were the big hit! As always I feel like I didn't get to spend time with anyone but I did have a great time. Everyone we spoke with afterwards told us that it was one of the best kids parties they had ever been to. We feel really good about that.

Mother's Day

We knew that we were getting two Mother's day presents from school. Sam told us, he told anyone that would listen. I have two moms and I'm making two mother's day presents. We have a very cute smart kid. He was bursting at the seems about them. He brought them home from school on Thursday and he insisted on us opening them that night. We each got a card with his hand print and a photo inside. On the back there is a list of things that we "like" as Sam see it. The list was so cute and mostly right on for both of us. He did say that I loved hot dogs and wore bulldozer pajamas, neither of which is true but he also said that I love pink and that I love to go to Fujiyamama to eat sushi, which he's right on about. The cards were attached to tissue box holders that were painted and have a photo of Sam on them. Sam was very specific about which one was mine and which one was Michy. It was the sweetest thing, we were both near tears. The whole time we were opening them he said over and over again Happy Mother's Day.
